What the Bible says about eternal life

  • God is holy, good and just.  (Leviticus 11.45; Psalm 25.8; John 5.30)

  • We are all sinners, disobedient to God and undeserving of any favors from Him.  (Romans 3.23)

  • What we deserve is death, or separation from a holy God.  (Romans 6.23)

  • God shows us His love by providing a substitute, Jesus Christ, to take our place and pay for our sins. (Romans 5.8)

  • If we repent, turn to God from life for self, and have faith in Christ alone, we can be forgiven. (Acts 20.21; Romans 10.9-10)

  • When we receive Christ, we are now called children of God.  (John 1.12)

To be a "real" follower of Jesus, you don't have to go to our church, or look like what somebody else says a Christian has to look like.  It's not about anything like that.  Eternal life and being a Christian is about a relationship with Jesus, not religion.  (John 17.3)  Religion is man's attempt to get to God through our efforts, which is impossible.  Christianity is God reaching out to people, through His Son Jesus Christ and offering a gift we don't deserve and can't earn.  It's called grace.  Scripture does claim there is only one way to "real religion", and it's through the "real Savior", Jesus Christ.  (John 14.6)  God's Word, the Bible, says that a "real Christian" does the will of the Father in Heaven.  (Matthew 7:21)  They are obedient, not out of ritual or duty, but out of love.  (John 15.8)  The "good news" is that Jesus says we can have eternal life, and life here on Earth that is at its fullest.  (John 3.16, 10.10)  Now that's "real" truth that "really" makes a difference forever.
